Tuesday, June 5, 2012 — Evelyn Mavis Hatley Burris Freeman, age 93 of Albemarle, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Woodhaven Court Assisted Living, Albemarle.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Wednesday, June 6, from 3-4 p.m.  

The funeral service will be in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, following visitation, at 4 p.m., officiated by Rev. Doug Beane-Hall. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at the home of her brother, Lawrence Hatley, 20769 N.C. Hwy. 73, Albemarle, N.C.   

Mrs. Freeman was born in Stanly County on February 23, 1919, to the late William Berry Hatley and the late Bertha Lee Smith Hatley. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, Spencer Dee Burris; second husband, Lester Freeman; a son, Reece Burris; and a brother, Edward Hatley.

She is survived by a brother, Lawrence Hatley and his wife Jo of Albemarle; a daughter-in-law, Cordelia Burris of Shelby; three nephews, Dale Hatley and wife Denise, Darrell Hatley and wife Debby, and Warren Hatley and wife Chrystal; two nieces, Inga Koujak and husband Ray and Lauri Pezdirtz and husband Keith; 10 great-nephews and nieces; and 12 great-great-nephews and nieces.      

Mrs. Freeman was a member of Mt. Pleasant Pentecostal Church and she was a retired winder from Cannon Mills.  

Memorials may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank Woodhaven Court for the loving care she received while she was there. Also, the family extends a special thank you to caregivers, Diane, Loretta, Gwyn, Wanda and Selena.
