SALISBURY - Joseph "Joe" Howard Troutman, 83, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, in the family home after a long illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1928, in Salisbury, Joseph was the son of the late Amanda Ruth Eller Troutman and Wilbert "Bud" Tell Troutman.
He attended Rowan County schools and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was a medic during the Korean War.
He retired from Rowan Memorial Hospital as the Assistant Manager of the Maintenance Department. Joseph was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.
Joseph loved the outdoors, motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing and his yard work.
Joseph was a loving husband and father and a gentle man to all.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Lincoln "Buddie" Tell Troutman; and sisters Allene Lakey and Pauline Wagner.
Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years, Peggy Agner Troutman, who he married Dec. 24, 1954; one son, Douglas Howard Troutman and wife Ann; sisters Lillian R. Callicutt and husband Alton and Judy E. Troutman; brother Donald L. Troutman and wife Bobbie, all of Salisbury.
Service: Services will be held at Providence United Methodist Church Saturday, May 26 at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the N.C. National Guard.
Visitation: Will be at held at the church two hours prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorials: May be made to Providence United Methodist Church, Bus Fund, 6450 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
