Doris Lipe Pickler Mauney

Doris Lipe Pickler Mauney, born September 28th, 1928, died Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 at her home in New London, NC.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 6-8pm at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, December 22, 2017, 11am at Highland Baptist Church in New London. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Stanly County Humane Society; New Life Ministries, Cary NC; or Monarch/Arc of Stanly.

Doris graduated from New London High School and High Point College where she received a BA in Elementary Education. Renowned for her love of nature and philanthropic spirit, Doris will long be remembered for giving back to her community. She was a charter member of the Stanly County Animal Rescue League, the Hawthorne Garden Club, and a long time volunteer for Meals on Wheels. A talented organist and pianist, Doris played organ for 58 years and taught Sunday School for 48 years at Highland Baptist Church. Her favorite activities included tennis and traveling with her family.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, James Ritchie Mauney of New London, her children James Ritchie Jr. (LuAnn) Mauney of Salisbury, George Lipe Mauney of Goldsboro, and Mary Burt (Lee) Allen of New London, her grandchildren Averi Mauney, Meredith Allen and Jackson Allen, and her beloved black lab June.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Stanly County, Brenda Ingram, Vanessa and Kenny Chambers, and countless friends who cared for and visited ‘Dottie.’
