GOLD HILL - Mrs. Jessie Austin Culp, 90, of Bethlehem Church Road died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she had been an active member since 1936. The Rev. Carlton Lucas will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Culp family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Sept. 7, 2002, at Gordon Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant and other times at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jane Cress, Walker Road, Mount Pleasant.

Born May 10, 1912, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Austin and Mary Alice Miller Austin.

A graduate of Mitchell High School and Pfeiffer Junior College, she received her N.C. Teaching Certificate from Catawba College.

Her husband, Glenn Bradshaw Culp, who died Feb. 7, 1983, preceded her in death. The Culps were married Dec. 25, 1936. Two brothers, Shelton Austin of Raleigh and Lyman Austin of Albemarle; a half brother, Robert "Bob" Austin, of Salisbury; and two sisters, Ethel Austin Coggin and Lottie Austin Husdon of Albemarle, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jane Cress and husband, Lewis, of Mount Pleasant; a son, Glenn Daniel Culp and wife, Nancy, of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Lauren Cress Hill and husband, David, of Concord, Brad Austin Culp of Gold Hill, Christopher Daniel Culp and wife, Kathy, of Bethania and Anne Culp Fleeson and husband, Will, of Winston-Salem; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nathan and MacKenzie Culp of Bethania and Isaac Hill of Concord; a sister, Juanita Austin Gerock, of Albemarle; and a half sister, Nanolyne Austin Barrier, of Richfield.

Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem United Methodist Church Piano Fund.
