Earl Raymond “Ted” Morgan
Earl Raymond “Ted” Morgan, a member of “The Greatest Generation”, completed his earthly journey Friday, April 13, 2018, from his home in Lexington at the age of 93. He was born in Rowan County on Nov.19, 1924, to the late Henry F. and Nannie Cauble Morgan. He was the widower of the late Edna Leigh Koontz Morgan who died in 2013 after 63 years of marriage.
Mr. Morgan graduated from Rockwell High School and later attended Rowan Tech. He honorably served in the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during World War II. After the war, he began a career with Goodman Lumber Company where he became a skilled craftsman. While continuing to work with the lumber company, he took a position as a Security Police Officer with the Veterans Administration where he served for 29 years before retiring. All the while, he pursued his passion for farming and growing things which he often gave away. He loved riding his tractors. He was also an avid collector. Another activity he enjoyed throughout his life was fishing…and he was good at it. He was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and he and his wife were blessed to be able to travel, take bus trips and attend many Braves games over the years. He was a longtime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Rockwell.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford, Chester, Hubert, Bill and Pete Morgan; and three sisters, Gaither Kluttz, Trula Morgan and Clara Trexler.
His memory will be cherished by his one daughter, Sheila Everhart of Lexington; one grandson, Daniel Clontz (Lesley); one great-grandchild, Xander Clontz; a dear family friend, Jo Anne Rice, who helped with his care in later years; plus many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Service & Visitation: The family will receive friends at Davie Burial & Cremation Service of Lexington Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Salisbury at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, officiated by Rev. Sean Barrett. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the time of service in the church. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Salisbury National Cemetery where military honors will be accorded in recognition of his service to his country by the Davidson County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Honors Team.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davie Burial & Cremation Service of Lexington which is honored to serve the Morgan family.
