KANNAPOLIS - Dr. Robert F. Kluttz, age 83, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, after a short, serious illness.

Dr. Kluttz was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Rockwell, the son of the late Fred William Kluttz and Mabel Peeler Kluttz. He was a graduate of Rockwell High School and then entered Catawba College in 1944, where his schooling was put on hold twice after being drafted into the U.S. Army. He later graduated from Catawba in 1949 and then furthered his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he graduated from the School of Dentistry in 1956.

Dr. Kluttz came to Landis and began his own practice. He was later joined by Dr. John Kesler. He practiced dentistry for 51 years until his retirement in 2007 at the age of 80.

He was a life-long member of Rockwell United Church of Christ. He was affiliated with the N.C. Dental Society. Dr. Kluttz was a charter member of the then Cannon Country Club, now The Club at Irish Creek.

He took great delight of giving away the abundance of his prized tomatoes from his vegetable garden. His family fondly remembers his love for the North Carolina Tarheels basketball program.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kaye Beaver Kluttz; his three children, Elizabeth K. Lillie and husband Alain of Charlotte, David A. Kluttz and wife Lindsay of Matthews and Susan K.
