Barbara Lee Baucom Taylor
Barbara Lee Baucom Taylor (Aunt Bobbie) passed away Saturday night, April 27th, at home. She was born on March 1, 1922, to the late Cleopatra Scarborough Baucom and Claude Relieu Baucom. She was the fifth of six children.
Barbara attended the original Green Hope School from the first through eleventh grade, graduating in 1940. She enjoyed helping with school socials and performances, playing basketball and attending athletic events. Barbara was elected Secretary/Treasurer of her Senior class and was voted "Best Looking".
Barbara followed her Mother and three sisters to Meredith College, majoring in education. She spent 35 years teaching fourth grade in the Raleigh City/Wake County Public School systems. Science was one of her favorite subjects. She especially enjoyed teaching North Carolina history to her students. Barbara retired from teaching in June 1979.
Barbara was a devoted daughter to her parents until their deaths. She and her sisters and brother enjoyed a close relationship, sharing holidays and other special occasions together. Her nieces and nephews were her "children". She shared her life and experiences with them; they looked forward to her playing Miss Santa every Christmas.
Barbara reunited with a teenage love in the early 70's, Mr. T. K. Taylor. They were married in her sister's backyard on June 21, 1975. They enjoyed 26 years together.
In addition to her parents¸ Barbara was predeceased by her husband, T.K. Taylor, her sisters, Scarborough Baucom, Joyce B. Pittman, Anna B. Peele, Relieu B. Cratch, and her brother, Claude R. Baucom.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Diane Baucom of Durham and step-son Kirk Taylor of Raleigh. Her nieces and nephews, Patra P. Payseur and husband, Jim, of Raleigh, Barbara P. Bowser and husband, Merle, of Greenville, NC, Jane Pittman of Alexandra, VA, J. Ron Baucom and Missi of Tullahoma, TN, Deborah G. McNeill and husband, Joe, of Kileen, TX, Charles E. Baucom of Rock Well TX, William T. Baucom and wife, Kieri, of Grand Rapids, MI, and Pattie Baucom of Los Alamos, NM.
Barbara is also survived by six great nieces and nephews and a great–great niece and nephew; Beth Bradley and her husband, Jeff and children McKenzie and Conner of Clayton, Richard Bowser of Raleigh, Jayne and Jenna Baucom of Tullahoma, TN, Christopher Baucom of Boston, MA, and Sarah Baucom of Austin, TX.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Green Level Baptist Church, 8509 Green Level Church Rd, Cary, NC 27519. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Green Level Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family thanks our special caregivers, Tasha Simpkins and Sherry Bazemore, of Visiting Angels, for the loving care they provided during the last three years of Aunt Bobbie's life. We also thank Hospice of Wake County and their support staff, who helped us through this difficult time.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County or a charity of your choice.
