MIDLAND Ray Junior Barbee, 76, of Stanfield, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Universal Healthcare in Concord, surrounded by his family.
Ray was born June 29, 1936, in Cabarrus County, to the late Vernon James Barbee and the late Dallie Mae Burris Barbee. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lee Jay Barbee and Afton Barbee.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 21, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.
The funeral service, officiated by Dr. Darrell Nance, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Kinza Memorial Baptist Church, 4311 Love Mill Rd. in Stanfield. Burial will follow at the Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Locust. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Ann Hargett Barbee; three children, Fairlan Barbee and wife, Wanda, Cardell Barbee and wife, Corletta and Cathy; sisters, Lois Eudy, Verna Mae Laton, Ruth Austin and Sadie Whitley; brothers, Marvin Barbee and Roy Gene Barbee; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ray worked as a dietitian for Cabarrus Hospital. He was a member of Kinza Memorial Baptist Church and loved to play the harp.
Memorials may be made to Kinza Memorial Baptist Church.
