ROCKWELL - Mr. Hugh Albert Beaver, 87, of Rockwell, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

He was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Rowan County to the late Arthur and Lizzie Misenheimer Beaver.

Hugh was a 1943 graduate of Rockwell High School and attended Appalachian State Teacher's College. He was secretary and treasurer of Sides Lumber Company.

A member of St. James Lutheran Church, Hugh taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for over 50 years, was a former member of the Church Council, and assisted with delivering Meals on Wheels.

He was a Past Master of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657 and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 44th Masonic District. A veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II in the Pacific Theater, Hugh was former Commander of Rockwell American Legion and was one of the founders of Rockwell Rural Fire Department, where he served as Chief from 1955 to 1958 and from 1963 to 1967.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by brothers Carlee, Junius, Herman, Clyde, Rufus, Ben, Billy and Ed Beaver; sisters Nola Peeler, Edith Corriher and Sarah Wagoner.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Betty Sides Beaver; sons Tom Beaver and wife Joan of Rockwell and Terry Beaver and wife Stacy of Rockwell; grandchildren Shannon Beaver, Jeff Beaver and wife Angela, Jordan Beaver and Clara Beaver. Hugh is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell.

Service: The service will follow at 3 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. David L. Martin, interim pastor, and Rev. Craig Sigmon, pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church in Taylorsville. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund.
