Sunday, September 21, 2008 ― Bill Melton Rowland, 77, of 21137 Biles Road, Albemarle, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in Stanly Regional Medical Center. His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Stanly Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ervin H. Houser and the Rev. Jimmy Caines will officiate and burial will be in Paul’s Crossing Bapist Church Cemetery. Born July 31, 1931, in Stanly County, he was a son of late Claude Melton and Martha Morton Rowland and was a retired employee of the Stanly Couny School System with 22 years of service and an employee of Confederate Motors with 23 years of service. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Doris Eudy Poplin Rowland of the home; six sons, Jeffrey Daniel Rowland and Randy Melton Rowland, both of Concord, Wayne Poplin of Albemarle, Tim Poplin of New London, Brian Poplin and Mark Poplin, both of Albemarle; two daughters, Connie Rowland Kirk of New London and Patty Poplin Landis of Charlotte; a sister, Peggy Rowland Poplin of Albemarle; 19 grandchildren; eight grandchildren; and an aunt, Bertha Rowland Russell of Albemarle. The family was to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Stanly Funeral Home.
