Hazel Heglar
Hazel Heglar passed away peacefully on July 2 after a long battle with dementia. She was the beloved wife of Dub Heglar for 71 years. They were married before Dub shipped out with the US Navy during World War II. At that time they lived in Mooresville, NC. She and Dub moved to Kure Beach and have been residents of there since 1948. She worked at the Glove Factory on Dow Road. Hazel worked at Smitty's Restaurant for many years. Hazel then became the owner of The Ocean View Restaurant, affectionately called "Hazel's" by the locals.
Hazel is survived by her husband and two sons, Harold (Diane) and Jerry (Cathy) Heglar both of Kure Beach. She was the cherished grandmother of David (Lisa), Mike, and Derrick (Jenny) Heglar. She also has 5 great-grandchildren; Elise, Erin, Matthew, Dylan, and Hayden Heglar.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Joe, Frank, and Dave Glover.
Services will be held Saturday, July 5 at St.Paul's United Methodist Church in Carolina Beach, NC. Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Service will begin at 11:00, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and of Autumn Care Nursing facility for the kind and gentle care they showed to Hazel
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Carolina Beach; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
