Thursday, February 14, 2008 ― John Curtis Hatley, 89, of 21831 Joy Road, Locust, died at 7:50 pm.. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at his home.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle. Ron Dry will officiate and burial will be in Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times they will meet at his home.

Born July 22, 1918, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late John Henry and Nettie Julianne Almond Hatley and was a self-employed farmer. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Almond Hatley, in 2006. A brother, Vernon Lee Hatley, and an infant daughter also preceded him in death.

He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Annette Hatley of Locust, Judy Hatley Howard of Midland and Nancy Hatley Crump of Norwood; a granddaughter, Tina Howard; five grandsons, Shane Howard, Michael Crump, Mark Crump, Matthew Crump and Mason Crump; and a brother, Willis D. Hatley of Locust.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Arrangements are by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
