MOUNT PLEASANT Arthur Melvin Moose, 87, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at his residence. A funeral service was held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ, officiated by the Rev. Terri Barringer. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends following the graveside service.
Mr. Moose was born March 22, 1927, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late A.F. Moose and Tena Rowland Moose. He was a member of Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army, during World War II in Europe. He built the Bear Creek Air Park in 1961 and was among the first members of the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association. Family members and friends enjoyed many flights in his two seater ERCOUPE. He received a 50 year aviation award and the Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Keasler Moose; sons, Raymond Moose and wife, Bobbi Rae and Gerald Moose and wife, Rita; grandchildren, Farrell, Tommy, Walter, Margaret Anne, Seamus, Justin Rhea and Jonah; great-grandchildren, Myrra and Helen.
