SALISBURY - Richard Lee Parker, 70, of Salisbury, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Parker was born June 5, 1939, in Stanly County to the late Leona Fraley Parker and Fair David Parker. He graduated from Richfield High School and attended Clemson University and Rowan Technical College. Mr. Parker served in the U.S. National Guard. 

He worked at Hoechst-Celanese as a supervisor until his retirement, then worked at Phillip Morris as a boiler technician from 1987-2009.

Mr. Parker was a charter member of Resurrection Life Church and served on the church council. He loved "old fashioned" gospel music and was a beloved husband and father.

His wife, Betty Speight Parker, whom he married on May 29, 1959, survives him; as well as a son, Richard Todd Parker; two daughters, Teresa Parker Rohrkeste (Kirk) and Bridgette Parker Peyton (Brad), all of Salisbury; and two brothers, Wayne David Parker (Bonnie) and Joe D. Parker. Three grandchildren, Heather Cline, Justin Cline and Brian Parker, and five great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Braiden, Wesley, Allison and Kelly, also survive him.

Visitation: The family will have a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 at Summersett Funeral Home. 

Service: The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 at Summersett Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Snipes and the Rev. Benny Hillard. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
