John Tilman Hatley

John Tilman Hatley, 93 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Homeplace Rest and Retirement in Albemarle.

JT "Buck" was born April 10, 1922 in Stanly County to the late John William Hatley and the late Zora Victoria Morton Hatley. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Margaret Morton Hatley; sisters, Faye Hatley Gordon, Vergie Hatley Shoe, Elizabeth Hatley Williams; and brothers, Ira Hatley, Grady Hatley, and Carlie Hatley.

The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 11am in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Brian Franklin. The burial will be at Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. At other times, the family will be gathering at his home.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice Fesperman and husband Forrest of Henderson; son, Reggie Allen Hatley and wife Vickie of Albemarle; grandsons, Allen Hatley and wife Jennifer, Matthew Hatley, both of Albemarle; granddaughters, Margaret Jane Fesperman of Henderson, Susan Fesperman and husband Kyle Luthy of San Diego, CA; and great-grandchildren, Tanner Hatley, Tilman Hatley, Addison Hatley, and Margaret Wren Luthy.

Buck honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from the DOT, where he worked on bridge construction. Buck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife, Margaret, until she passed away on August 7, 2011. Buck was a faithful member of Plyer Baptist Church, where he served on the cemetery committee and was a Deacon. He was also an avid gardener.
