George "Raymond" Huffman
George "Raymond" Huffman , 90, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
He was born November 20, 1927 in Rowan County, NC to the late Coy and Linda Starnes Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a graduate of Rockwell High School, he was employed by Johnson Concrete, Southern Railroad and retired from Taylor Manufacturing. Mr. Huffman was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was former treasurer of the Cemetery Fund.
Mr. Huffman was a sports fan who was very loyal to the UNC Tarheels, Erwin Middle School, East Rowan High School and the Rowan County Legion Baseball program. He very much enjoyed beach trips with family and fishing trips with his buddy's. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his sister, Marie H. Eller; brother-in-law, Reid Eller; and niece Elaine Eller.
Raymond is survived by his wife of over 69 years, Lorie Lookabill Huffman, whom he married September 8, 1948; daughter, Jackie Huffman of Salisbury; son, Gary Huffman and wife Elaine of Salisbury; grandson, Blake Huffman of Washington D.C.; granddaughter, Jordan H. Coggin and husband Jeremy of Huntersville; two great-granddaughters, Jillian Grace Coggin and Jenna Rose Coggin; and nephew, Kenny Eller and wife Rita.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, June 23, 2018, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center, Salisbury, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018, in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Bill Ketchie, officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund.
