RICHFIELD -- Ray Monroe Barringer, 82, 28594 Misenheimer Road, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle, after two weeks of declining health.

Born Jan. 29, 1921, in Rowan County, Mr. Barringer, a son of the late John Paul and Mertie Mae Isenhour Barringer, was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church. He retired fromOakwood Homes in February 1983 and was a farmer and gardener.

He married the former Jewell Irene Shank on May 11, 1940. She died Nov. 9, 2001.

Survivors include son Terry Barringer, Richfield; daughters Brenda Kimrey, Norwood, and Jan Myers, Joy Medlin, and Lori Burris, all of Richfield; brothers Murphy Barringer, Gold Hill, Felix Barringer, China Grove, and Robert Barringer, Richfield; sister Jettie Hill, Gold Hill; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Gordon Funeral Home chapel, Mount Pleasant, conducted by the Rev. Robert Cauble and the Rev. David Lowe. Burial, Bethel (Bear Creek)United Church of Christ cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter LoriBurris, 452 Old Salisbury Road.

Memorials: Richfield United Methodist Church; Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ; or American Cancer Society.
