Bernita Sifford Abernathy

Bernita Sifford Abernathy, 95, of Salisbury passed away on Monday. February 26, 2018, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. She was born on August 30, 1922 in Rowan County daughter of the late Wyllie Lee Kluttz and Mary Kate Ribelin Kluttz. 

Bernita was a member of Organ Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the “Women of the Church”. She was a former member of Lyerly Evangelical Church and was a former President of the Faith School PTA.

She had worked at Carolina Maid until it closed and then at Chemtron in Granite Quarry until her retirement. Mrs. Bernita was known for ability to treat burns, shingles and stop bleeding as a User.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter “Bud” Sifford and her second husband Greer “Sump” Abernathy. 

She is survived by her two sons, Roy Sifford and wife Renee' of Salisbury, and Dennis Sifford of Salisbury; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. 

Services: Visitation will be held Friday, March 2, 2018, from 10:00 til 10:45 AM at Organ Lutheran Church with funeral services held at 11:00 AM by Rev. Carlin Ours, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church.
