Elsie Lucille Basinger

SALISBURY - Elsie Lucille Hill Basinger of the Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care, Salisbury, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Rowan Memorial Medical Center.

Born Feb. 24, 1916 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Maggie) Lucinda Troutman Hill and Zebbie Marcellus Hill. She was married to Clarence Lee Basinger of Salisbury, who preceded her in death in 1974.

She was educated in the Misenheimer schools and the Rowan Cabarrus Community College. Elsie was employed with Cartex Mills, beginning in 1936 and continuing for 50 years until her retirement in 1986. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Salisbury where she served as church financial secretary and Sunday school teacher for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by brothers Marvin, Elbert, and Virgil, and by sisters Mary Miller and Lena May Rainey.

She is survived by her son Donald Basinger and his wife Freda of Greensboro; three grandsons, Donald Jr., David, and Kevin; eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandson; several nieces and nephews; and one sister in-law Marie Cook of Hampton Va.

Visitation and Services: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday April 24, 2012 at the Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Summersett Memorial Chapel, Salisbury, with Pastor Randy Addison, minister of Trinity Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
