Jack Smith, A Prominent Farmer, Dies at Home
Funeral Rites Held Saturday Afternoon at 4 o'clock with Interment at Stony Hill

This community was saddened by the death of Jack Smith, which occurred on last Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, at his home in the Stony Hill vicinity. He had been in failing health for the past two years. He was one of this section's oldest citizens, having reached the age of 72 years, eight months and 25 days, all of which was spent in this section of Stanly County. He will be greatly missed in the church and community.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Stony Hill Church, of which he had been a member for 45 years, by the pastor, Rev. J. O. Banks, assisted by Rev. P. W. Tucker of Lincolnton, Rev. R. M. Hauss of Badin, and E. M. Avett, pastor of First Street M. E. Church, Albemarle. The multitude of friends who attended the funeral and the many beautiful floral offerings bore testimony of the love and esteem in which he was held by his fellowmen.

The pallbearers were T. C. Redwine, J. E. Redwine, Henry Fesperman, Albert Lowder, Bon Cranford and Burris Mullinix.

The following were the flower girls: Misses Nellie Ingram, Gladys Ingram, Frances Clark Redwine, Madge Redwine, Wilson Russell, Mildred Fesperman, Margaret Fesperman, Lona Parker, Dera Kirk, Gelia Frick, Velma Rogers, Alma Forrest, Ruby Clayton. Mesdames: R. E. Bisel, J. E. Redwine, Robert Russell, Spain Littleton, Dorothy Lee, John Patterson, and Marshall Leonard.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Kirk Smith, and 12 children, as follows: Mrs. B. F. Lowder, Jackson Springs, N. C.; Mrs. C. W. Surratt, Thomaston, Ga.; Misses Odessa, Maude, and Laura Smith, Richmond, Va.; and Gurtha Smith at home; A. S. Smith, Thomaston, Ga.; E. G. Smith, Columbus, O.; Vann B. Smith, Grand Rapids, Mich,; Will T., Ben F., and J. Wayne Smith at home. Two half brothers, E. V. Byrd, Norwood, N. C.; Marshall Byrd, Norfolk, Va. Two half sisters, Mrs. J. D. Swaringen, Spencer, N. C.; Mrs. Paul Harris, Norwood, N. C.; and 17 grandchildren.
