Otie “Lee” Burris

Otie “Lee” Burris, 87, of Albemarle, N.C., passed away Sunday March 12, 2017 in CHS- Stanly, Albemarle, N.C. His memorial service will be 2 PM Wednesday March 15, 2017 at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30 prior to the hour of the service.

Mr. Burris was born April 2, 1929 in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Ephriam Burris and Bessie Clark Burris. He retired as vice president with Dainty Maid Foods. Mr. Burris was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was in the U.S. Army Reserves with thirty-one years of service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he played guitar with the church choir and also played for the local nursing homes. Mr. Burris played with several bands the Hinson Band, Pine Ridge Buddies, Cross Fire Band, and Old House Band over the years.

He was survived by his wife Eloise Newton Burris of the home. Other survivors include two sons, David Burris of Albemarle, N.C., Dean Burris and wife Amber of Stanfield, N.C., a daughter Debra Burris Hudson and husband Tony of Albemarle, N.C., six grandchildren Derek Howell, Kristin Hudson, Holly Hudson, Clint Burris, Logan Burris and Matthew Burris, and five great-grandchildren Riley Howell, Dane Howell, Kylee Hudson, Brayden Burris and Kendall Davis. Mr. Burris was preceded in death by a brother Bruce Burris, four sisters Lizzie Barbee, Pauline Strickland, Rosa Belle Ritchie and Mary Lou Huneycutt and a granddaughter Olivia Burris.

Memorials may be given to the Shiners Hospital for Children, Greenville, SC.
