Judson Jefferson “Jud” Almond

Sunday, July 26, 2009 — Judson “Jud” Jefferson Almond, 96, of the Taylor House, Albemarle, died at the Lutheran Home, Albemarle, at 6:20 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Canton Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The body will lie in state in the church sanctuary during this time.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Canton Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Mark Mabry will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 Ritual Team.

Born Nov. 21, 1912 in Stanly County, he was the son of the late William Bangle and Lucy Burleson Almond.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a supervisor with Duke Power.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Shankle Almond.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Almond Atwill of Wilmington, and a granddaughter, Alyson Elizabeth Atwill of Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Baptist Church Mission Fund, c/o the Youth of Canton Baptist Church, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
