Sophia Reid Josey
ROCKWELL - Sophia Reid Josey, 94, of Rockwell, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at her residence.
Born Dec. 14, 1916, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Mary Gertie Lemly Reid and David Eugene Reid.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Josey, on Dec. 21, 1978; brothers Benjamin Grant Reid, Reather Reid, Lloyd Clinton Reid and Clifford Reid; one sister, Josephine Reid; and infant sister Pearl.
Mrs. Josey was the last survivor of her family's generation.
Her hobbies included sewing, making dresses, gardening and farming. She worked on a farm most of her life, selling the produce.
Survivors include nephews, Calvin Reid, a caregiver (Sherry), Charles Reid (Shirley), Billie Reid, all of Rockwell, Larry Reid (Kathy) of Zephyrhills, Fla., Harry Reid (Judy) of Kannapolis, Betty Goodrich (Robin) of Rockwell; sister-in-law Lucy Josey Anderson of San Diego, Calif.; and good friend Peggy Helms of Kannapolis. She loved her dog, Molly.
Visitation: 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Lyerly Funeral Home.
Service: 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at West Park Baptist Church, 715 W. Park Drive, Rockwell, NC 28138. The Rev. Charles Carver will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
