SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Elsa Howard Hatley, died Aug. 6, 2011, in San Diego.
Born Nov. 17, 1919, in Section, Ala., she graduated from the nursing school of State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Fla., as a registered nurse. She practiced as an RN at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and in hospitals in San Francisco and Virginia Beach.
She was married in 1945 to Spencer B. Hatley, to whom she was married until his death in 1997.
She lived in Salisbury, N.C., and worked at Rowan Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1982. She and Spence moved to Oak Island, N.C., in 1993.
Elsa is survived by her son, Joe S. Hatley, San Diego, Calif.; daughters Patsy R. Hatley, Lausanne, Switzerland, Betty H. Henderson, Rogers, Ark., and Sally H. Lineberger, Oak Island, N.C. She is also survived by her sister, Annie Towsend, Marianna, Fla., and brother, Ed Howard, Tallahassee, Fla.
A private service will be held at a later date.
