Thursday, January 17, 2013 — Joe Sherrill McSwain, 82, of Albemarle, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.  

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Randall’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Norwood, with full military rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 17, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Stanly Funeral Home.

Born March 22, 1930, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Ernest Sherrill McSwain and Nellie Swaringen McSwain.

He was a retired employee of Arrowood, Inc. and former employee of Young’s Manufacturing in Norwood.  

He was a charter member of South Stanly Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and a building committee member.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and he also loved farming.

He was married to Dorothy Rummage McSwain of the home. Other survivors include son, Roger D. McSwain of Albemarle; daughters, Sherry Boles and husband Speedy of Norwood and Vickie Jackson and husband Dale of Maryville, Tenn.; brother, Arthur “Doc” McSwain of Albemarle; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Two grandchildren, Shannon Jackson and Caleb Boles; and two brothers, Bobbie and Arnold McSwain, preceded him in death.

Stanly Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
