Clara R. Sifford

SALISBURY - Mrs. Clara Ruth Rhinehart Sifford, 81, of Salisbury, passed away July 1, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Sifford was born in Rowan County on Sept. 20, 1929, to the late Clarence Lee and Myrtle Brown Rhinehart.

She graduated from Rockwell High School in 1947 and received a B.S. in Nursing in 1950 from Rowan Memorial School of Nursing. Mrs. Sifford worked for Rowan Memorial Hospital, retired from the Salisbury VA Medical Center and was co-owner of Sifford's Exxon, now Sifford Oil Company.

She was a member of Organ Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 43 years. She worked with Women of the Church where she served as President and Treasurer, was Past President of the Senior Group, and served on various church committees. Mrs. Sifford was also Past President of Faith American Legion Auxiliary and delivered Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sifford was preceded in death by her Step-Mother, Sadie Clark Rhinehart; and her husband, Elbert Max Sifford, who passed away June 27, 1995.

Mrs. Sifford is survived by a son, Steven Sifford and wife Lorri; daughter Barbara Sifford; grandchildren Justin and wife Brittany, Kylie, Camrie, Celia Sifford; and a great-grandson, Briley Sifford, all of Salisbury.

Services: Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 5, at 2 p.m. at Organ Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Carlin Ours and Rev. Eddie Pless, former pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Monday, July 4, from 4-7 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
