Notes for Marguerite Myrtle Taylor
Marguerite Taylor Wood

Marguerite Taylor Wood, age 93, of Winston-Salem died Friday, February 28, 2014, at Vienna Village. She was born in Dallas, NC, on August 5, 1920, to the Rev. Richard A. Taylor and Rosamond Shinn Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Wood; her sisters Katherine Taylor Stewart and Rebecca Taylor Little; and her brothers George Taylor, Paul Taylor and Tillet Taylor.

Mrs. Wood graduated from Lewisville High School in 1937 and received a bachelors of science in home economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1941. She became a registered dietician in 1942 upon completion of coursework at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit, MI. She later practiced dietetics at Amos Cottage at Baptist Hospital for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Wood was a prolific letter writer who loved gardening, oil painting and music. In her youth, she played the piano at her father's churches across the Western North Carolina Conference, and later in adulthood for the Clay-Chandler Class at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. In the years when she was raising her children, prior to returning to her profession as a dietician, she taught piano to hundreds of children in Forsyth County.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose warm heart, kind spirit and devotion to family will be missed deeply by all.

Surviving are two daughters and one son, Janet Wood Ruis of Pfafftown, Ann Wood Spragens of Durham, and Philip Stephen Wood (Ann) of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Spragens Soule of Durham, Stephen David Spragens (Emily) of St. Louis, MO, Emily Wood Lemons (Robert) of Clemmons, Suzanne Wood Wilkison (William) of Raleigh; six great grandchildren, Zachary and Nathan Soule, Lillian Spragens, Robert and Wesley Lemons, and Charlotte Wilkison.
