'Becky' Agner Hinkle

Rebecca "Becky" Agner Hinkle, 81, Salisbury, died Sunday (June 23, 2002) at her home after four years of declining health.

Born Jan. 14, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hinkle was a daughter of the late EdgarL. and Letha Peeler Agner. She was educated at Faith Elementary School, Granite Quarry High School and Crossnore Business School.

She worked for Efird's Department Store and later worked in the shipping and receiving department of Cannon Mills. In 1951, she opened Becky Hinkle Fabrics, which she operated until 1983. In addition to dress fabrics, she did weddings, drapery and interior decorating. During her business operation, she was a wholesale distributor for Coats Clark Thread and Zippers and Eastern Drapery Rods.

A member of Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, she was on various church committees, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Annie Armstrong Missionary Group. she was also a member of VFW 3006 Auxiliary.

Survivors include husband of 59 years Paul Hinkle; son Paul Hinkle Jr., Salisbury; daughters Becky Ann Hinkle, Salisbury, Jean Hinkle Trexler, Rockwell, and Sarah Hinkle Riedel, Macon, Ga.; brother John Henry Agner, Faith; sisters Edna Phillips, Chesapeake, Va., and Roana Bost, Faith; six granddaughters; two stepgrandsons; one great-grandson; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Richard Gross, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Heard, former pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home.
