Mozelle Shaver Smith
HIGH POINT – Mrs. Mozelle Shaver Smith, 89, of River Landing died Monday, June 27, 2011.
She was born June 13, 1922 in Stanly County; a daughter of John and Ivora Williams Shaver. Mozelle leaves a legacy of Mozelle’s Fresh Southern Bistro in Winston Salem established in 2008 and named for her. Granddaughter Jennifer Smith Manner is owner of the bistro. Mozelle had been a member of Westchester Baptist Church for 75 years. On Dec. 22, 1940 she married Fred Eugene Smith who preceded her in death on April 9, 2009.
Surviving are her children Kay Stamey and husband Larry of Thomasville, F. Gene Smith, Jr. and wife Glenna of Winston Salem, and Johnny Smith and wife Laura of High Point, a brother Dickie Shaver & wife Linda of Apex, Brother in law Jimmy Smith and wife Gerry of Waycross, Ga., three grandchildren Daniel and Steven McPherson, and Jennifer Smith Manner, two great grandchildren, Evan and Smith Warren. She was preceded in death by sisters Geneva Gray, Edna Mashburn, and Gladys Wayne and brothers Paul and Horace Shaver.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Westchester Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Peacock officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point
