Gladys Shaver Wayne

HIGH POINT – Mrs. Gladys Shaver Wayne, age 93, of High Point died January 15, 2011 in the Hospice Home at High Point.

Mrs. Wayne was born in Stanly County on May 11, 1917 to John Benjamin and Ivora Williams Shaver. She had been a resident of High Point since early childhood and was a homemaker. Mrs. Wayne was a faithful member of Westchester Baptist Church for eighty-five years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Fred Wayne, Sr. and her son, Roy Fred Wayne, Jr., both in 1985.

Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Whitaker of High Point and a son, Mike Wayne of High Point. Mrs. Wayne has a sister, Mozelle Smith of River Landing at Sandy Ridge and a brother, Dick Shaver of Apex, NC. There are two grandchildren; Ronda Harris and Darin Whitaker of High Point and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 am in Westchester Baptist Church by Reverend Eric Peacock. Interment will follow in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Wayne will remain at Sechrest Funeral Service until placed in the church Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the home caregivers from Hospice, Lynn, Renee, and Alisa and special thanks to Mrs. Wayne's nurse, June and to all the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for the loving care shown to her.
