Hoy Rufus Stirewalt
Hoy Rufus Stirewalt, 89, of Faith, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.
Hoy was born on May 9, 1927 to the late Clarence A. and Mary Park Stirewalt in Rowan County, NC. He was a 1945 graduate China Grove High School and a graduate of Winston Salem Barber College. After military service Hoy began his career as co-owner of a family grocery business. He later enjoyed many careers in his life time including principal owner and operator of S&W Trucking Company, operator of other trucking companies, former officer of Piedmont Hardwood Lumber Company and owner operator of multiple barber shops.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in 1945 & 1946. Hoy was a Member of the Faith American Legion Post 327, the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657, and the Shriners.
Hoy was a member of Organ Lutheran Church, he was very active in his church serving on numerous committees and church council several times.
Hoy enjoyed spending time at his beach home, and spending time at his home on High Rock Lake. He loved being a part of his grandchildren's lives, he enjoyed watching them compete in all the various sports they played. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time traveling.
In addition to his parents, Hoy was preceded in death by Wife, Mary Evelyn Gardner Stirewalt, Sister, Helen Stirewalt Clampet.
Hoy is survived by his Son, H. Neal Stirewalt of Charlotte; Two Daughters, Mary Lynn Misenheimer and husband Steve of Rockwell, NC, and Gina Barringer and husband George of Faith, NC; Two Granddaughters, Brooke Misenheimer, and Hannah Barringer; Three Grandsons, Mark Misenheimer and wife Katie, Kurt Misenheimer, and Luke Barringer; Great Granddaughter, Hadley Misenheimer; Special Friend, Betty Wyatt.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm at Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 2:00 pm at the Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Carlin Ours, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Organ Lutheran Church Cemetery with Military graveside rites provides by the NC National Guard and the Rowan County Honor Guard, and Masonic Rites provided by Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657.
Memorials may be made in memory of Hoy to Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge #657 Masonic Home for Children or to Organ Lutheran Church.
