Notes for Emmalee Morton
Emmalee Morton McPherson

Thursday, December 2, 2010 — Emmalee Morton McPherson, age 85, born August 12, 1925, went home on November 28, 2010.

Emmalee was born in Stanly County, N.C., the sixth child of eight children of Willie Adam and Nellie Jane Morton, widow of Frank H. McPherson Jr., Sgt. Major (U.S. Army Retired).

She was the first of her siblings to graduate from high school but continued her education throughout her life.

Mrs. McPherson was predeceased by her sons, Frank H. McPherson III and Wayne D. (Susan) McPherson.

She is survived by her sons, Donald L. (Judy), Scott E. (Loretta), and David O. (Becky); daughters, Pat McPherson Senn (Emerson), Lisbeth McPherson Hanson (Alan), and Jane McPherson LeMaster (Rob); 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mickey Thompson; and sister-in-law, Joyce Morton.

Mrs. McPherson was employed by the State Columbia Record newspaper until her retirement. She was a blue ribbon winner for her prize quilt and was a food delivery person for Meals on Wheels, with three-fourths of her customers younger than she was!

She loved to watch her children’s antics but would not go in public with more than one at the time because of her shy nature which not one of her children shared that trait. She was generous and loving and well read – remembering authors and able to tell of most books she had read in her 85 years.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday December 1, 2010 in the chapel of Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Rev. Scott Bowerman officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
