Notes for Robert Fred Shepherd
Robert Fred Shepherd

Robert Fred Shepherd, 84, of Salisbury, NC, passed away on October 14, 2017. He was born in Salisbury on November 7, 1932.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, David Wesley and Maggie Trexler Shepherd. A loving and devoted father and husband, Robert is survived by his wife Frances whom he married on June 27, 1982, son Robert Wesley Shepherd (32) of Wilmington, NC, and daughter Anna Renee Shepherd (31) of Woodstock, GA.

Robert served his country in the Army from 1953 - 1955 in the Korean War. He spent his career in the textile mill industry, retiring when his children were still young. He then took on the full-time job of chauffeur and stay-at-home father, transporting Bob and Anna to field trips and extracurricular activities. He spent countless hours teaching his son to hunt and fish and taking his daughter on daddy-daughter dinner dates, unforgettable memories for them both.

Robert particularly loved his short-sleeve button-up shirts with a pocket for his glasses, homemade fig preserves, pies of any kind, high-waisted Wrangler jeans, Vienna sausages, Days Work plug chewing tobacco, The Lawrence Welk Show, and instant tea with saccharin.

The visitation will be from 2:30 until 4:00 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

Funeral services for Robert will immediately follow at the church at 4:00 pm, conducted by Rev. Gary Coble, Pastor.

Robert will be laid to rest at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury (Statesville Blvd. Location) with Military Graveside Rites provided by the NC National Guard and the Rowan County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Scholarship Fund at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to all who have offered support and care to Robert during his time of illness, especially the doctors, nurses and staff of the NC State Veterans Home.
