Helen Leah Haynes

Helen Leah Haynes, 93, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Neighborhoods by Tiger Place in Columbia, Mo.

Helen was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Stella, Mo., to Holcie and Cona (Long) Carter. She attended Stella schools, was married to William "Red" Haynes on Sept. 18, 1937, and he preceded her in death, Feb. 5, 1992.

Helen was an active homemaker, a librarian in Poplar Bluff and Jefferson City, and an avid gardener who loved flowers.

She is survived by her children, Patsy (Wilson) Eastburn, of Joplin, Mo., and Mike (Cheryl) Haynes, of Columbia; grandsons, Greg Eastburn, Joplin;  granddaughter, Carole Eastburn, Katy, Texas; great-grandson, Carson Eastburn, Carl Junction, Mo.; a great-granddaughter, Ariel Eastburn, Carl Junction; a great-great-grandson, Aven Eastburn, Carl Junction; step grandchildren, Marc and Matt Lewis, Columbia, and Suzy (Jeff) Peel, Scottsdale, Ariz.; step great-grandsons, Carter and Zachary Peel, Scottsdale; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, "Red" Haynes; a sister, Vera Johnson; a brother, Junior Carter; and several members of her and Red's families.

The family wants to thank The Neighborhoods by Tiger Place for the loving and special care they gave Helen during her final years. They provided tremendous dignity, grace and respectful care for her at all times.

Funeral  services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Prosperity Baptist Church, Rocky Comfort, Mo., followed by a time of fellowship at the church. Rev. Kyle Beverlin will officiate. The family request no flowers. Memorial contributions be made in honor of Helen to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the mortuary.
