Betty Marie Forrest Basinger

Betty Marie Forrest Basinger, 92 of Salisbury died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Liberty commons Nursing Facility in Salisbury.

Born April 4, 1918 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Tatum and Classie Eller Forrest. Mrs. Basinger was educated in the Rowan County schools and graduated from East Spencer High School.

She was retired from Cannon Mills Plant One Folding Department. During her active years of retirement, she enjoyed knitting hand-towels, canning vegetables from the garden, and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Basinger was preceded in death by her husband, Caesar C. Basinger on December 11, 2009; and sisters, Jenny Barkley, Bill Kester, Ruby Gattis, Mary Wensil and Lorene Weir.

Mrs. Basinger was a member of Mt. Hope Church, the Ann Kreps Circle and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her sons, Mackie Basinger and wife Merley of Salisbury and Randy Basinger and wife Sharon of China Grove; grandchildren, Corey Basinger, Lori Seitz and husband Kelly, Jamey Basinger and wife Heather, Robby Basinger and wife Debra and Amy Marie Basinger; great-grandchildren, Garrison and Grayson Seitz, Ayden, Sawyer and Layla Basinger.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM – Friday at the Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Crook, interim pastor of Mt. Hope Church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, China Grove.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Friday at the Summersett Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence at other times.

The family wishes to thank the entire nursing staff and care givers on the 300 Wing at Liberty Commons for their loving care over the past three years.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Hope Church, 7004 Old Concord Road.
