Dessie McLester

Tuesday, September 21, 2010 — Dessie Mae Almond  McLester, age 92, of  the Ridgecrest community, passed away on September 18, 2010 at CMC‑North-East in Concord.

The family received friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Tuesday from 3-4 p.m. Funeral service followed at 4 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel.                               

Rev. Larry Pittman  officiated and burial followed in Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Locust.

Born in Stanly County on  March 20, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Irvin Almond and Nancy Eudy Almond. She was a graduate of Ridgecrest High School and a member of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church, where she attended regularly as long as her health permitted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Joseph McLester in 1973; granddaughter, Tammy Smith; four brothers, Hugh Almond, Lewis Almond, Fred Almond and Marvin Almond; and two sisters, Dora McLester and Flora Greene.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy M. Smith and husband Gareth of Locust; her son, Jerry M. McLester and wife Beth of Concord; four grandchildren, Sandie S. Upchurch and husband Tony of Albemarle, Susan Smith of Locust, Jonathan McLester and wife Catherine of Charlotte, and Andrew McLester and wife Carol Ann of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Joseph Upchurch, Broughton McLester, Henry McLester, Ann Hampton McLester and Jenrette McLester.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
