Everett Reece Smith

Everett Reece Smith, 83, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Everett was born in Stanly County, on Nov. 25, 1932, to Duncan Monroe and Stella Smith.

Everett graduated from New London High School in Albemarle. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War Conflict. During this time, he married the love of his life, Nellie Teague on June 5, 1954.

He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company in Salisbury, and retired from Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro, N.C. He was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors, especially gardening, fishing and bird watching from his back porch. He had an amazing singing voice. He sang in his church choir and sang in many weddings. During his life Everett enjoyed the theater. He performed for the Piedmont Players Company in plays such as South Pacific and Hello Dolly.

He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife whom he spent many years as her caregiver until her death, always putting her needs before his. He loved his children and grandchildren who will always remember him entertaining them through songs and playful games.

Everett is preceded in death by his wife Nellie Elizabeth Smith. He is survived by his three children, Randy H. Smith and wife Connie of Nolensville, Tenn., Pam S. Arey and husband Joe of Salisbury, and Duncan Todd Smith and wife, Janet of Greenville, N.C. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation at Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro, N.C. on Thursday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m., at Conetoe United Methodist Church in Conetoe, NC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery on site.

Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home of Tarboro.
