Larry Moody Parrish

SALISBURY - Larry Moody Parrish, 72, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 20, 1937, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Hoyt Moody and Annie Earnhardt Parrish.

He was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and graduated from Catawba College with a triple major. He received an MBA from UNC-Charlotte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He retired from Met Life in Salisbury. After retirement, he worked as an Interim Nursing Home Director across North Carolina.

He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council, the Property Board, Stewardship Board, Worship Board, L.S.A. Foundation, "Eagle's Nest" Shelter Home, Call Committee and Usher Team.

He was devoted to his family and enjoyed extensive traveling and baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Eagle Parrish; son Delwin Parrish and fiancee Caren Bills of Charlotte; daughter Jodi Plyler and husband Scott of Rockwell; and grandchildren Caroline and Victoria Plyler.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Propst and Rev. Jennifer Ginn officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Summersett Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Friday; and at other times will be at the residence.

Memorials: May be made to the Emily Brown Scholarship Fund, c/o St. John's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
