Richard Lee Eller

SALISBURY - Richard Lee Eller, 88, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, December 21, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Mr. Eller was born May 9, 1919, in Rowan County, the son of the late Samuel Lee Eller and Ruth Rufty Eller and stepson of Mrs. Loudera Lemley Eller. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools. He retired as a police officer with the Salisbury Police Dept. in 1981. Prior to the Police Department, he owned and operated Eller's Grocery Store.

He was a member of Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church and a member and Past Master of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in Salisbury. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Jessie "Moline" Ribelin Eller, on November 27, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Clark Eller of Salisbury; daughter Annie Ruth Kepley of Granite Quarry; sisters Louise Eller Basinger and Mary Eller Agner of Salisbury; brothers Floyd N. Eller and Ned A. Eller of Salisbury; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Ray Knight of Winston-Salem, Cindy Knight Waller of Salisbury, Jonathan David Eller of China Grove, Christopher Lee Eller of Greensboro and Vanessa Michele Eller Dellinger of China Grove. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Little, pastor, with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church, Building Renovation Fund.
