Mary Bland Moore Aldredge

SALISBURY - Ms. Mary Bland Moore Aldredge, 94, formerly of Salisbury, later residing in Brown Acres in Granite Quarry and Trinity Oaks Lutheran Home, died Aug. 27, 2012, at Springwood Care in Winston-Salem.

She was born Jan 23, 1918, the daughter of the late William Percy Moore and Sallie Badger Wetmore of Salisbury.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a talented seamstress and artist, enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and was an advocate for animals. She was famous for her delicious handmade mints that melted in your mouth.

She, along with her husband, also delivered the Salisbury Post for 40 years. Mary Bland was also a direct descendent of Elder Brewster of the Mayflower and other ancestors who go back to the beginnings of our country.

She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Salisbury, where she taught the nursery class for many years.

Mary Bland was preceded in death by her parents; husband James (Jim) Buren Aldredge Sr.; a great-granddaughter, Mary Gray Southern; son-in-law Rev. Douglas Howard Butler; a brother, William (Bill) Percy Moore Jr.; and nephew Andy Moore.

She is survived by son James (Bo) Buren Aldredge (Carolyn) of Richmond, Va.; daughter Sarah Bland Aldredge Butler of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Lynn Aldredge of Morgantown, Pa., Jay Aldredge (Patti) and Woody Aldredge (Jackie), both of Richmond, Va., Sallie Aldredge Cooke (Todd) of Williamsburg, Va., Laura Butler Southern (Kevin) of Lewisville and Tommy Butler (Mandy) of Walnut Cove; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister- in-law, Vera Moore of Hopewell, Va.; and nephew Billy Moore of Fort Mill, S.C.

Service: A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m., at Brookhill Memorial Gardens, 8625 U.S. Hwy. 52, Rockwell, NC 28138. The Rev. Beverly Voyer Coppley will officiate.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Rowan County, P.O. Box 295, Salisbury, NC 28145-0295; or a charity of your choice .

Cremation Services in Winston-Salem is assisting the family.
