Richard Hubert Ketchie

Mr. Richard Hubert Ketchie, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 19, 2016 after an extended illness of five years.

Hubert was born March 10, 1926 in Rowan County to the late Ruth Walton Ketchie and John Steven Ketchie. He attended Rockwell High School and served in the United States Navy in the Philippine Islands during World War II. He retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway with 30 years of service as a brakeman and conductor; and spent the remainder of his retirement years with his family. Hubert enjoyed gardening, deep-sea fishing, lawn maintenance and traveling with his wife to different states. He was a member of Living Water Church of God in Kannapolis, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a worker in the church.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years Aileen Roseman Ketchie, his brothers William and Harold Ketchie, and his sister Hazel Page.

Survivors include his son, Richard Ketchie of Salisbury; daughters, Priscilla Burton (Don) of Concord and Darlene Smith of Salisbury; grandsons, Timothy Smith (Sharon) of Faith, Shannon Burton (Anna) of Charlotte, Shawn Burton of Concord and Stephen Burton (Kelly) of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Darin Sifford (Jennifer), Garrett Smith, T.J. Smith (Lindsay) and Spencer, Lincoln, Fletcher, Ariel, Kate, Samuel and Benjamin Burton; great-great-granddaughter, Ruthie Maurd; sisters, Josephine Troutman of Rockwell, Ella Mae Wagoner of Harrisburg and Lena Beaver of Clemmons.

Visitation & Service: Receiving of friends and guest will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Rowan Memorial Park Salisbury, prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Bishop Wade H. Easom and Pastors Stephen and Shannon Burton officiating.

The Ketchie family wishes to thank the North Carolina Veteran's Home of Salisbury and Pruitt Hospice staff for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Ketchie.
