Clarence Lentz Lowder, 88, of 33426 Old Salisbury Road, Albemarle, passed away Jan. 21, 2010, at Britthaven of the Piedmont in Albemarle. He was born in Stanly County on March 15, 1921.
Clarence Lentz Lowder was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Russell Lowder, his father, John Houston Lowder and mother, Eula Poplin Lowder. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Woodrow Lowder, Wilson Lowder and Marshall Lowder, and sisters, Hattie Arey, Dora Lee Harwood and Puah Whitley.
He served on the USS LSMR 408 while serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and an electrician for Wiscassett Mills for 47 years.
A visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Hartsell Funeral Home‑Albemarle.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, 522 N. 2nd, Albemarle, with The Rev. Sid Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. Military honors graveside by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.
He is survived by his sons, Calvin L. Lowder and wife Cedel, and Donnie D. Lowder and wife Beverly, all of Albemarle; his sister, Ruby Austin of Albemarle; grandchildren, Linda Griffin, Melanie Lowder, Chad Lowder, David Lowder and Melissa Curlee; and four great-grandchildren.
