CHINA GROVE - William Vernon Whitley Sr., 68, died Tuesday, 23rd of April, 2013, at his residence.
Born Feb. 11, 1945, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late William Preston Whitley Jr. and Pearley Fraley Whitley. Educated in the Rowan County school system, he was a truck driver for 30 years. Ten of those years were with WilcoHess. He was also the former owner of Humdinger in Kannapolis for 10 years.
He loved fishing and yard work and was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge 293, The Oasis Temple, The Eastern Star and the Shrine Club in Salisbury.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Turner Whitley; a son, William Vernon Whitley Jr. of China Grove; a daughter, Tina Whitley Faggart of Salisbury; and a sister, Frances Whitley of Kannapolis.
Service and Visitation: Funeral service will be held Friday April 26 at 2:30 p.m. in the Linn-Honeycutt Chapel in China Grove. There will be a visitation Friday from 1-2 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt. Officiating minister will be Rev. Richard Smith. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorials: May be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, Tampa, FL.
