SALISBURY - Herman Lee Eagle, 78, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 20, 1931, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Johnsie Gullett Eagle and Gaither John Eagle. Mr. Eagle received his education in Rowan County schools.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War. Employed by the railroad until 1956, he then worked for Salisbury Metal Products and retired from Kern Roll and Rubber Hose Company as Machine Shop Manager. He also worked part-time for L.A. Murph Catering.
Mr. Eagle loved fall fishing trips to Kure Beach. A doting grandfather, he also loved working on various items and could fix almost anything.
Mr. Eagle was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Baity Eagle, whom he married Dec. 24, 1954; son Kenneth Eagle of Salisbury; daughter Bonnie Stiller (Dave) of Salisbury; brother Clement "J.C." Eagle (Sherry) of Faith; and grandsons Morgan and Joshua Stiller.
Visitation: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 at Lyerly Funeral Home; and at other times, the family will be at the residence.
Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144. The Rev. Tom Smith will officiate.
