Mary Ruth Barringer
SALISBURY - Mary Ruth Holshouser Barringer, 85, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Genesis Elder Care of Salisbury.
Born Jan. 6, 1924 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Maggie Rebecca Lyerly Holshouser and Lewis F. Holshouser.
Mrs. Barringer was a graduate of Rockwell High School, class of 1941. She retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 7.
A member of First United Church of Christ on Horah Street, she was also an active member of the Senior Prime Timers and former member of a lady's church circle. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Preceding her in death was her husband, John Calvin Barringer, who died Oct. 1, 1996; sisters, Kathryn H. Shive and Marguerite H. Eagle; and brother, Hoy V. Holshouser.
Survivors include sons, John Alan Barringer (Jennie S.) of Raleigh, Kim Randal Barringer (Connie) of Salisbury; sister, Louise H. Barger; five grandchildren, Andrea Lynn Venus (Scott), Jenna Christine Barringer, all of Huntersville, Melissa D. Barringer, J. Chad Barringer, both of Salisbury, Sarah A. Barringer of Raleigh; and one great-grandchild, Cole A. Venus of Huntersville.
Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at Lyerly Funeral Home.
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at First United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mike Childress officiating. Burial will follow at Old Historic National Cemetery, 202 Government Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
Memorials: First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah Street, Salisbury, NC 28144; and at other times the family will be at the residence.
