KANNAPOLIS - Daniel Broadus Hinson, 82, of Kannapolis, died Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Mr. Hinson was born June 16, 1928, in Chesterfield County, S.C., son of the late W. Daniel and Hannah Privett Hinson. He attended Zoar Middle and Chesterfield High School.

Mr. Hinson enjoyed a successful career as a Licensed Electrical Contractor and was employed by Cannon Mills Electrical Department for 25 years. He was most proud of starting his own company in 1972 and serving as President of Hinson Electrical Contractors of Kannapolis, Inc. until his retirement in 1993.

Mr. Hinson was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church, where he had been involved in church activities and served as chairman of the Educational Building Committee. He was a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge 626 and was a former member of K-Town Vagabond Club.

He enjoyed meeting and interaction with all people. He was a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan and liked sports of all kinds. He loved and was loved by friends and family and found great joy in mentoring his sons, Don and Steve.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gladys Brown Hinson; his sons, Donald K. Hinson and wife Bobbie Hinson of Charlotte and Steven L. Hinson and wife Lisa Hinson of China Grove. Broadus is also survived by his five grandchildren, Scott Hinson and wife Whitney Hinson of Charlotte, Erin Hinson Banker and husband Chris Banker of Belmont, Rachel Hinson of Kannapolis and Jacob and Gracie Hinson of China Grove; great-grandchildren Noah Banker of Belmont and Emery Hinson of Charlotte; brother Walter Hinson and wife Gail Hinson of Charlotte; sisters Dean H. McBride of Fayetteville, Leona H. Boatwright and husband James of Patrick, S.C., Sue H. Watford and husband Jimmy of Patrick, S.C.; sisters-in-law Betty Jean Hinson of Columbia, S.C., and Frances Hinson of Kannapolis.

Daniel Broadus Hinson was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles P. Hinson of Columbia, S.C., Reece Hinson of Kannapolis and infant brother Jessie; sisters Margie Caulder and husband Everett of Chesterfield, S.C., Ruth Alexander and husband Leroy of China Grove; brother-in-law Harold McBride of Fayetteville; and infant sister Hazel.

Service and Visitation: The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 at Bethpage United Methodist Church, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will precede the funeral service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Bethpage United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are in the care of Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis.

The family also wishes to thank Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast, Caremoor and Cabarrus Hospice and Palliative Care for the excellent care given to Mr. Hinson.
