Tuesday, April 5, 2011 — Rev. Alton Parker Basinger Jr., age 72, of 720 Shady Drive, Albemarle, NC died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 8:35 p.m. at his home.
The family received friends at Stanly Funeral Home, Monday, April 4 from 6-8 p.m.
His funeral will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church. Rev. Stoney Benfield, Dr. Hal Bilbo, Dr. Darrell Huneycutt, Dr. Gary Pinion, J.R. Drake and Joe Calloway will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory.
Born June 23, 1938 in Stanly County, NC he was the son of the late Alton Parker and Helen Eagle Basinger. Two daughters, Vickie and Janet Marie and one sister, Hatie Laura B. Davis, also preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of New London High School, class of 1958, Fruitland Bible College and Mid-Atlantic Bible College.
He was a retired Baptist minister. He served at Cottonville Baptist, East Albemarle Baptist, and East Side Missionary Baptist Church in Concord, NC. He was a pastor for 32 years.
Rev. Basinger was a faithful, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church and was very active in the Stanly Baptist Association.
He was married to Maxine Campbell Basinger of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Gregory Todd Basinger and wife Stefanie of Augusta, Ga. and Michael Scott Basinger and wife Nada of Concord, NC; one daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) B. Smith and husband Brad of Marshville, NC; a faithful companion, his beloved dog Gidget; three brothers, Jerry Basinger of Salisbury, NC, Hayden Basinger of Albemarle, NC and Robert (Bob) Basinger of Concord, NC; one sister, Dorthy B. Lowder of Mt. Pleasant, NC; 11 grandchildren, Rebecca Spaniel and husband Ryan of Anchorage, Alaska; Monica Basinger, Janet Basinger and Anna Basinger, all of Charleston, SC, Kylie Basinger of Concord, NC; Haley Smith and Katelyn Smith, both of Marshville, NC; William Rabb, Andrew Rabb, Parker Todd Basinger and Reese Basinger, all of Augusta, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, or Prospect Baptist Church, or to the choice of the donor.
