ROCKWELL - Mr. Jerry Zane Grey Basinger, 80, of Rockwell, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Genesis Healthcare.
He was born Dec. 18, 1931, son of the late Alton Parker Basinger and Helen Eagle Basinger.
A graduate of New London High School, Mr. Basinger worked for 38 years in the Dye Department at Collins-Aikman. He was a United States Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a former Deacon and loved helping others, gardening and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alton Parker Basinger. Jr. and Hayden Basinger; and his sister, Hattie Laura Davis.
Mr. Basinger is survived by his wife, Barbara Culp Basinger, who he married June 9, 1956; daughter Laurie B. Shuping and husband Rusty of Rockwell; brother Robert Basinger of Supply; sister Dorothy Jean Lowder of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, July 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.
Funeral Service: 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at Bethel Baptist Church conducted by Rev. John Houghton, pastor. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell with military graveside rites conducted by the N.C. National Guard and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials: May be made to Pregnancy Support Center, Salisbury, NC.
