Joseph A. Jones

Joseph A. Jones, 74, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017.

He was born October 8, 1942 in Salisbury, NC to Albert Enoch Jones and Dorothy Frick Dunham. He graduated from East Rowan High School in 1960, and attended Gaston Community College.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1960 - 1964.  He was member of the VFW in Charlotte, and the Civil Air Patrol. Joseph was an avid pilot who enjoyed flying up until 10 years ago, he was also an avid woodworker, and he loved to fish.

In addition to his mother, Joseph is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Connie Norman Jones, whom he married May 2, 1964; son, Timothy Patrick Jones and wife Suzanne of Summerville, SC; two grandsons, Dillon Jones of Cornelius, and Evan Jones of Summerville; granddaughter, Emilie Jones of Summerville; and sister, Susan Trexler and husband Wayne of Salisbury.

In addition to his father, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Dorothy Powell.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 11:00 am 12:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Powles Staton Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, NC, with nephew, Dr. Barry Cook of Mooresville officiating.

Burial will follow in the US National Cemetery (Statesville Blvd location) on Thursday at 1:00 pm with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Rowan County Veteran Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
