Edith Holshouser Duncan

ROCKWELL - Edith Fesperman Holshouser Duncan, 85, of Rockwell, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Mrs. Duncan was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Rowan County to the late Holk Columbus Fesperman and Mamie Corl Fesperman.

Edith attended Rockwell High School and worked in the textile mills. Mrs. Duncan was also a seamstress and homemaker.

She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Edith was a member of the Auxiliary of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, as well as Rockwell American Legion Auxiliary, where she held many offices throughout the years.

She enjoyed baking, crocheting, spending time with family and was a faithful contributor and supporter to Billy Graham for his work in the ministry.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Duncan was preceded in death by brothers J.C. Fesperman and Hubert L. Fesperman; two sisters, Mildred F. Carter and Mary C. Gosney; and one grandson, Patrick Scott Parker.

Edith Duncan is survived by her husband of 36 years, Henry Tillman Duncan; one daughter, Trudy Holshouser Amery of Charlotte; three stepsons, Henry Michael Duncan of West Palm Beach, Fla., Matthew Hilton Duncan of Gainesville, Fla., and Rodger Thomas Duncan of Faith; a brother, Larry Fesperman of Rockwell; a sister, Shirley F. Cline of Rockwell; grandchildren Tonya Parker Beaver of Concord, Alexander Sinclair Amery of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brandon Alan Amery of Asheville and Mark Matheson Amery of Asheville; step-grandchildren Andrew Marshall Duncan, Daniel Thomas Duncan, Cole Ritchie Duncan and Kristy Ladell Duncan; and one great-grandchild, Parker Claire Beaver.

Visitation and Service: A visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home. The service will be held on Friday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to Samaritan's Purse, Boone, NC.
